Most directory-style sites treat access as a display concern: hide the button. In legal work it is a data concern. If the record can be reached, it does not matter that the link was hidden. That distinction shapes the entire permission layer, and it is the first thing I check when reviewing an existing legal platform.

Questions people ask before hiring
Is hiding a button enough to protect a case file?
No, and this is the most common serious flaw in legal platforms. If the record can be reached by anyone who knows or guesses the address, it is exposed regardless of what the interface shows. Permission has to be enforced where the data is fetched, not where the button is drawn.
How do you handle clients and lawyers in different jurisdictions?
Lawyer profiles are organised by practice area and qualifying jurisdiction, and intake routes a matter to someone actually qualified for it rather than to whoever is next in a list. The interface is multilingual because clients arrive in different languages, and the applicable law is often a third country again.
Can we prove afterwards who accessed a file?
Only if an audit log was built in from the start, append-only, recording who, when and from where. Retrofitting one gives you records from the day you added it and silence before that, which is exactly the period anyone will ask about.
