I built Rasa Lichfield — a halal Pan-Asian restaurant inside the historic Corn Exchange — with reservations and online ordering both reachable from anywhere on the site.

What I built

  • Menu presentation across a Pan-Asian range
  • Table reservation flow
  • Online ordering through WooCommerce on WordPress
  • Custom theme balancing a listed historic building with a modern kitchen
  • Mobile-first, since most restaurant traffic is on a phone

The engineering decision

The design challenge was carrying a listed historic building and a contemporary Asian kitchen at the same time, without either looking like an afterthought. Lean too far toward heritage and the food reads as dated; lean too modern and you waste the single most distinctive thing about the venue.

Restaurant sites fail more often on navigation than on aesthetics. If booking takes more than one tap from any page, the design has already lost.
