The engineering decision
The real build was the admin side, not the public one. Tooling that lets a non-technical editor keep hundreds of listings accurate is what determines whether the directory is still worth visiting in a year.
Nobody ever praises a directory for being up to date. They just quietly stop using it when it is not — and by then you have lost them permanently.
