I built Wasiila to serve pilgrims in Mecca — water distribution and mosque-care supplies — as a multi-vendor marketplace where independent suppliers list and fulfil orders.

What I built

  • Multi-vendor marketplace with independent supplier accounts
  • Vendor onboarding a non-technical supplier can finish without help
  • Catalogue and ordering for water distribution and mosque-care supplies
  • Order states that survive dropped connections in crowded areas
  • Capacity planning around calendar-driven demand spikes

The engineering decision

One requirement shaped everything: demand does not arrive evenly. It arrives in waves tied to the religious calendar. The system either holds during those windows or it fails at the exact moment it matters most, to people who travelled a very long way.

So the effort went into the parts nobody photographs — onboarding, order-state durability, and capacity that does not assume an average month. Knowing real people depend on it during Hajj changes how carefully you write the error paths.
