The engineering decision
Every extra field on that form is a student who gives up and sends an email instead — which is worse for both sides, because now the request arrives incomplete and the work starts with three clarifying messages.
Form length is not a neutral choice. It is a direct trade between data quality and completion rate, and the right balance depends entirely on how urgent the visitor is.
